WOW! Your collection is completely awesome! LIke how you have them arranged too! For PLAYING WITH! Not just hanging in a box on the wall or shelf. I never understood why anyone would want a toy and then keep it in the box. oh, that' s AWESOME! It would be funny (but devious) to post that in an AD&D collectors form ad a variant or a prototype Elkhorn you saved from your days working for LJN. Tell everyone it's not for sale (just kidding obviously, to anyone that was about to jump on me for joking about deceiving anyone) Anyway, here's my collection so far. in the back of the first p[ic is my carded Cave Fisher, I don't have a case for it yet so I keep it in a ziploc til I get one. Also in the last, pic, right past the Dragonne, there's a small pile of bags with figures in them, I keep my really nice Mercion and Ringle runs in bags and display my more beat up ones because they have clothing that can get stained or dusty siting on a shelf, also a double Kelek in the bag. Anyway: I still need Hawkler, Deeth, Metaflame, Ogre King Shield Shooter and the other 2 shield shooters, Tiamat, Hydra, Bugbear/Goblin, Chimera, Zaraks dagger and the Book of Spells accessory that came with Odious Ogre and the Fortress of Fangs and the collection will be complete. (other than all the battlematics which isn't a necessity, and the Terrible Troll which I'm not really fond of it's looks)

@crimsonfox, thanks! I just got a few more of the bendies, I have all of them now, and have all the PVC's except Bug Bear and Terrible Troll and2 accessories. But actually, I have a few MOC collections as well as a bunch of loose lines I collect. Limited shelf room has forced me to keep my more modern lines in pack and pinned to the wall, but I have so many loose toys, it takes some of the desire away for opening them. I plan on it someday, possibly, but I need to get some more shelves first (and I have 9 4-5 foot shelves, 2 3-4 shelf bookcases, a coffee table, another smaller end table and a custom bookcase my father built that's around 6' tall and has 6 shelves. They are ALL filled right now, as is my closet with boxes). Basically, however I started collecting a line, that's how I keep it. Most of my MOC's are modern lines, except for my Pee Wee's Playhouse figures and a bunch of vintage windups (of which I have a LARGE carded AND loose collection). I am a fan of package art, so I like the way my JLU look displayed, but I am constantly wanting to open them.

OH....MY....GOD. Those are amazing. Any info on them??? The guy on the left is Valkeer and the one next is the 2nd version of Kelek, I know that, but I've only seen them in pics on the Toy Archive. Never seen a Zarak with a flesh colored face though. Oh, by the way Billy, I'm the guy that came down and talked to you about the 2 Cavefishers I have, one loose, one carded (the guy that comes in with my older father and also collects wind ups and Q Bert/Pac Man/DK stuff). I also just picked up a Deeth of Ebay is EXCELLENT condition: Anyway, major props for snagging those, that's a HUGE score. Every plan on seling them?

Dude, billygalaxy, you have got to be kidding me. I think I just crapped my pants. Where in the heck did you come across that stuff? That has got to be the single coolest freaking image I have ever seen posted on the internet. I am eternally jealous dude, you have outdone yourself with that score! Great work dude!

Hmm....never thought I'd see them again. I saw them years ago like when I first joined ebay in an auction. It ended several times with no bids and I kick myself for never bidding. What are they? Prototypes? Test shots? Product samples that never went into production?

@victoryleo, I agree, I was dumbfounded when I saw that pic. Holy wow ....man, I'd kill for those. Now he just needs Pulvereye, the Snake Cave playset, Behir, Bullette, shayla, and the Pernicorn Terrasque wind ups! Seriously though, one of the most amazing scores I've ever seen in any toy group Billy. Incredible acquisition. I never thought I'd see a great pic of them like that. if you have them at the shop I'd love to go down and check em out some day, I can bring a coule strange things to show you that we talked about (although yours trump mine by a long shot)

Are these actual protos of the unreleased figures or some type of KOs?

It they are knockoffs, they did a phenomenal job, since both look exactly like they did in the ljn catalog, colors, detail and everything. Also, Billy owns a vintage toy store, so I could see him having the connections to get something like this, I think he also owns a store in Japan. Either way, I hope he writes back and tells us the deal/story.

Honestly, I would probably pay that for a Valkeer proto. I've wanted that thing for a decade now! Amazing figure. I never even THINK to check for these. I'm still speechless. Such an awesome photo seeing those three figures together like that. Else, I have to say, your two cave fishers (one loose and one carded) are WICKED cool to see in a collection. I'm glad they went to a good home, great score man!

I figured some peeps here would enjoy checking these guys out. They are all hard copy protos obtained from a former LJN employee. Only a handful of each of these figures was typically made, so there is a reasonable chance that these were even the ones photographed for the catalog! else3573 - Your collection of these guys is looking great (I lurk here much more often than I post, so I have been following your progress). They are not at the shop, but maybe I can bring them down sometime for you to see... I have been trying to put neat photos of stuff like this up on the shop's Facebook page: www.facebook.com/pages/Billy-Galaxy-vintage-toys-collectibles/296558394062

Yeah man, I'd kill for that. I talked to someone who owned one awhile back, he sold his for I think $8,000. (not graded). Also, I just noticed something: on the back of a SS YMT card, I have already noticed the Young Male Titan they show with all the figure on the back of the card has different colors/design than the one that was produced, but I didn't notice that the big winged guy on top of the Fortress of Fangs is grey with bright yellow wings on the card. Also, the production Pernicorn looks a lot different then the one on the card back of my Cave Fisher. The prototype pic has him with white arms and orange hands, not the green arms of the one in the last pic I posted...

Coming soon is a free old-school beat 'em up/RPG starring a lot of these characters. Here's a comparison of the sprites to the toys.

Good eye:) Some of the characters used Golden Axe characters for a base model. Some of them required an amalgamation of various pieces from different games. For example, Strongheart's cape is from a game called The Killing Blade, his armor is from a game called Night Slashers, his face is from Killing Blade, and his sword is from Warriors of Fate. They're fully animated (walk, run, attack, get hit, fall down, special attacks etc). The game is actually an adventure set in Greyhawk, against the Empire of Iuz. Warduke was officially retconned into the Greyhawk setting in Dungeon magazine a few years ago. Here's the article on him: www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/alumni/20060414a

Ahh, yeah, that makes sense. Really it's the Bronze Dragon I thought looked like Golden Axe graphics the most. A few characters also.

Yes, VERY much like that - in fact we use a lot of the backgrounds and enemies (gnolls, goblins, lich, troll etc) from that game. Hopefully you'll think this is an improvement -- there's cities you can go to, shops you can buy things in, taverns where you can talk to NPC's.

I'm glad that some still take the time to make these sort of games. Will it be playable on MAME? (Yep, im aware that games written in one format would basically have to be re-rewritten for another )

Not on MAME, but on OpenBOR (Beats of Rage). That's the engine which let's you make your own sidescrolling beat 'em ups, similar to how MUGEN lets you make fighting games.
The good thing is, it'll come in a folder with an icon inside and you just double-click the icon to play the game. OpenBOR currently works on PC and PSP. Not sure about Mac.
I'll post updates here when there's more news.

FINALLY added a mettaflame to my collection! I have been on him numerous times, only to get outbid every time, so I big the bullet and paid a little more than I wanted to, BUT, first off, he's in GREAT condition, I would say a c-9, easily. Secondly, AD&D have been skyrocketing lately, the last one of him that sold before mine went for $145!! And third, this was a best offer or buy it now, the dealer sent me a counter offer but still went down $30 less than the buy it now price, so I got it for $90. Not terrible, especially considering the condition (still shiny, tight legs, SS works great, etc.) and considering how much Dungons and Dragons toys have been going for lately (not sure why they've taken off so much):

Yeah, when I saw those draft game graphics I instantly thought D&D Shadow Over Mystaria. Loved that game in the arcade. Having some LJN figures in game format sounds sweet.
Oh, and nice score Else!! Definitely looks minty sparkles!
