This figure intrigued me, and I bought one off ebay for $70 last month and it arrived with a broken piece and I sent it back. I thought it was kinda chintzy with all the fragile little kibble and whatnot. Nonetheless, I was still intrigued enough to keep an eye out for them and won one in an auction last week for about the same price. For a 6" scale figure he looks kinda small, and the shoulders are kinda doofy, and I still think the little opening panels on the legs are too fragile as well as the bits on the wrists and feet, but I am getting to like him more over this past week.
The die-cast gives him some heft, and there's some very precise detailing all over. He has that proper metallic look to everything, even painted plastic. The engineering is pretty clever. Torso expands, ankles expand in novel ways. The leg panels aren't practical at all but they are incorporated cleanly and give it a little more playability. The articulation is terrific and well hidden. I also like the LED light up arc reactor and eyes feature, the face plastic could have been a little more opaque but whatevs. The light switch isn't obtrusive and the battery cover is seamlessly cut into the armor.
Then he's got a good assortment of hands and his arm cannon dealie, and two shoulder rocket pods, plus four jet flame effects that can plug into his feet and hands. The shoulder rockets are hard to get in and interfere with positioning of the movable shoulder pieces. The shoulder caps in general can be annoying to pose anyway. It does piss me off they didn't include a stand. Now I hafta find a stand that will accomodate a 6-inch figure made of primarily diecast that I can actually trust to hold him up. And I am thinking he'd actually look best displayed in some sort of flying scheme. Now I just have him posed with his repulsor hands palms out. He looks good though, and it makes me appreciate the way they made the ankles and also the articulation they put in the feet because he will actually hold a pose pretty well with how good and stiff all the joints are.
Worth $70 hucks or so though I think. I wasn't feeling him at first but I came around, and I'm not even that big of a movie Iron Man fan it's just that impressive a figure.
