These are two 3 3/4" Mego superhero lines from the 1970s. Comic action heroes came out first and the figures usually had bent arms and knees and came with a figure stand. Pocket Heroes were released after and the figures were molded with straight limbs and no figure stands. It seems a few of these figures were also based off the Superman movies. Check out the Pocket Heroes figure gallery on the main Website here

This is the best I can do: www.toymania.com/334archives/comic/fortress.htmA mego site I was on, claimed it was never released. The pic on the mego site shows white chairs but the pic on my link that shows the box, has red chairs. I actually have two of the red chairs that I got on ebay. The guy I bought them from claimed he had the fortress set when he was a kid, but the two chairs were all he had left. So I search on.

I finally got it! The Fortress of Solitude. The box has some water damage as well as a few of the stickers on one of the walls. Its missing Superman, a chair, and part to the door. I have two loose chairs and a Superman. I may never see the door piece, but oh well, i'm happy. It went cheaper than I thought it would.

That Fortress is pretty cool, Clambo do you have some better pics to post now that you got it in?

Yup, I actually have bought two more fortress sets since. One has white chairs, a white table, and a red door as opposed to the first set that had red chairs, a red table, and a white door. I don't know what the story is with the variation or if one set is more rare than the other, but I do know I have both. I will take some pics, maybe this weekend, and get them up. I also have a Mangler. The only thing I need from either line, is the CAH Batcopter. That damn thing has gone for over $400 three different times. It's hard to shell out that much dough for such a small piece of plastic.

I'd seen the figures many times, but never realized there were playsets and vehicles. WOW. That Fortress of Solitude looks amazing.

Recently scored a Comic Action Heroes Shazam and Aquaman and they just came in the other day. The figures have a nice retro look to them, though its to bad they didn't have more articulation than just the waist, neck and shoulders.

Nice one, but check out this score;
The only figure it was missing was Wonder Woman, but her lasso was there. Green Goblin was wearing his pouch, which wasn't listed or able to be seen in the pics, so that was a bonus. I already sold the Exploding Bridge set for $250, meaning I got a Fortress of Solitude set, 11 mint figures, 24 STANDS(!), 5 batropes, 2 Joker canes, 2 Penguin umbrellas, 2 Capt. America shields, 1 Wonder Woman lasso, & 1 Green Goblin pouch for $178. What a score!!!

This figure is really beat up, but I got him in a lot. It's to bad he's in such bad shape cos it's a really cool figure. On his back it says "Marvel Co. 1975 Hong Kong". At least I think it's supposed to say "Co.". The only visable letter is "C" cos there's a burnmark where the "o", or whatever letter, should be. Anyone?

I love this line. I have the batman and superman. Its weird that it says 1975 on it because I thought the comic heroes were 1975 or 76 and the pocket heroes were 1979.

I was looking on the back of my Pocket Super Hero Hulk the other day and noticed the year was 1975. The line was made in 1979, so why is it dated 4 years before? Anyone have any info??

1975 was most likely when Mego bought the licenses to do those characters.
I just got a WGSH Robin (taken off a severely damaged '79 card) and the stamp date is 1974 or 1975.

Could it be the stamped part of the body is a re-used mold?
For example my MOTU Screech has '72, because it was used as 'eagle' for the Big Jim line. But Screech wasn't out 'til '82.
Just like my MC Hammer doll has 1968 on his back... but 1991 on his head.

Ive been wanting to collect this mego line but they really are pricey. I at least at some point want a spiderman and hulk. The thing with these figures is that for the price i can buy their eight inch counterpart and probably feel more like im getting my moneys worth. Still cool toys though.

I got a few of these too. I always wondered. Is this the first true action figure line? Does anyone know of an earlier one?

I have a handful of pocket heroes that survived from my childhood collection. I have Aquaman, Superman, Batman, Hulk, Captain America, and Spider Man that I can recall. The problem is, they didn't have enough detail for my young self, so some time after I bought them I used Testors model paint to "touch them up". Kinda wish I hadn't done that now....
This line always felt significant to me because it was one of the earliest lines to use the 3 3/4" scale, and it was also one of the only times that one company had license to make both Marvel and DC characters. In fact, I don't know if anyone has pulled this off since Mego - maybe Toy Biz at one point in the early 90s?

I have one of these & the markings state :- @marvel C.G. 1975 HONG KONG I'm using the @ in place of the copyright symbol, it may be possible that the G is an O if perhaps there was a slight kink in the mould but it certainle looks like a G under a magnifying glass. Anyone?

Marvel C. G. would be Marvel Comics Group.

I have this figure together with the 1976 Robin.
I also have the 1979 Superman, Zod, Jor-el and Mork.
I do however have another set of 4 figures:- Spiderman / Batman / Superman / Hulk all dated 1979 stamped Marvel Comics - Made In Hong Kong.
All figures are approx. 5 1/2", all are die-cast metal / alloy and are articulated at the waist, hips, elbows and knees.
does you or anyone know what series these figures come from? Are there more in the series to collect? Any info would be appreciated!
