Back at the 1988 Toy Fair, Lionel announced the company’s first non-train line of toys – a series of 2” tall action figures and motorized vehicles called PowerMasters. A two-page advertisement in the various toy industry trade magazines gave just a little space to the new science fiction toy line. More information was provided in the press release. I don’t remember seeing any of this product at retail until many years later when I found three examples of the “Lucky” Cooper figure at a model train store on Long Island here in New York. The unusual thing about these was that they weren’t production pieces, but appeared to be hand assembled, pre-production samples! While the cards were properly printed, the blisters were rough cut and attached to the cards with double sided tape! And the M40 Photon Pistol mentioned on the card wasn’t included with any of the figures. The figure is 2” tall and has just 5 points of articulation – head, arms and legs. The card measures 6” x 8.25”. I’ve never seen anything else on this line. Does anyone remember these and might provide additional information?
