Really good informative write up they have, snazzy design sense, and shedding some light on the whole creative process is cool. Plus pulling in the old talents was definitely an intelligent move. Luck to 'em.

Yeah, I really prefer these sculpts to the retro style reaction figures. These figures (well the prototypes anyway) seem to pull off the vintage look without looking too cartoony.

I was surprised to see this. I think the figures look great but I was not familiar with the story. How are we supposed to pronounce Cthulhu?

I was surprised to see this. I think the figures look great but I was not familiar with the story. How are we supposed to pronounce Cthulhu? And what a story... HP Lovecraft's universe is massive, hugely influential on so much darker fiction out there to this day, and often appreciated in a comical sense too. Rather than any single one of his tales I figure these characters are just reflective of the archetypes of most of his stories. Most commonly nowadays people just say Cthulhu like - kih-thoo-loo. I think Lovecraft probably would have it pronounced more exotic - (if pronouncable at all), Cthulhu in basic terms being an alien. Tons of magic mumbo-jumbo words in H.P.'s material, plus after a while of saying - Nyarlothep, R'lyeh, Balsa Goth, Leng, Suggoroth, etc, etc. Upside down and backwards, I think we're just meant to wing it. His human characters have always ended up going cuckoo-mental-mad trying to speak R'lyehian anyhows

That helps a lot. I have to confess that I have never read anything by Lovercraft. I am looking forward to it.

Cool figures but not my cup of tea. I did send them an email telling them I'd give them $200 for the galaxy warriors horse they had on the shelf in the background. No answer yet so I guess they don't need money that bad.

I'm not familiar with the story these figures are based on, although they look pretty cool. When investing money into acquiring figures I have to really pick my spots so, if produced, I might buy these only if I had extra funds.

Ha! Not sure how much it's worth really. I know a boxed one on eBay the seller wanted $500 or something like that, and now it's gone. I should of just thrown down the $500 and been done with it. Since its the last galaxy warrior beast I need I'm throwing down a little more then I think it's worth so I can hopefully land one. As far as the saddle it looks like a piece of felt just laid over the horses back, and I have a piece that matches pretty good.

You'll then also need to pick up a vintage mint mid-eighties plain rubber band (it's how the saddle originally comes attached... first class that) Ahem - back on subject, the Warpo crew have some cool vintage gear in their studio/office. Maybe it was dangerous to show it off though, people considering pledging to the kickstart toys might suddenly realize that money could go towards some other figure they spotted... heh heh... I'm digging that translucent Cthulhu 'stretch goal' figure for sure.

So it's over, they were able to unlock two figures, but too bad we couldn't unlock Lovecraft himself!

I have started to see more and more great action figure ideas on Kickstarter. Not a lot of fantasy stuff (what I collect), but definitely some stuff worth checking out. Like this one:

Fuuuuuu............I never noticed the big guy in the stretch goals. So for $90 (minimum) you ended up with six 3 3/4 figs and the biggie?

the big guy was way up in the stretch goals and they said he would not be part of the all in package.

This was a great idea for an indy line and Warpo did an awesome job capturing the 80's feel. They look just like Kenner would have made them. I agree that $20 is steep, especially for a 3.75" figure, but compared to Reaction's low quality retro figures for $10... it seems reasonable to me. These ventures are a labor of love, I doubt they're swimming in the cash they've made For comparison Zoloworld started they're Realm of the Underworld 5.5" figures at $19.99 each and have raised the price a little with each wave up to a proposed $29.99 each with the latest figures. And their figures have all been old sculpts so far. Outside of Star Wars, which I no longer collect, I don't really care for the 3.75" scale sadly. That giant Cthulu is pretty tempting though!

I personally like the 3.75" scale figures, if they are done decent. This comment speaks to what you said about the lower quality of the ReAction figures. These Warpo figures and figures by Bif Bang Pow in this scale are overall done much better than ReAction. Plus the ideal figures that are most compatible with how I do my pictures with the scenic backgrounds are 3.75" and 4.5" figures. After a figures gets past 6" tall it gets tricky and figures over 7" tall simply won't work.

I wish they were a bit cheaper. I was in on the Kickstarter originally, but with no real love to the property. I liked the Fish guy but didn't like his randomly presculpted leg. I'm really into Realm of the Underworld at the moment, as it ties it nicely to my vintage stuff.
But these are nice figures. I wish they could have gotten the price down to around $15, given that they ended up doing a run of these figures in addition to the Kickstarter stuff.
