Remember Chap Mei toys that were all around a few years back? I was thinking of taking some pics of some Pirates Of The Carribean figures I have and I did a search for the two cannibal/headhunter figures from their Wild Quest line and they're nowhere to be found. And some of the prices on ebay for these knock-off figures are amazing.

I was always quite surprised by Chap Mei's cult following, they've been really successful and are still going strong. I'm really glad they are appreciated and respect that while they knock-off trends, they essentially stand alone next to the 'big boy' toy companies. Do you collect any CM lines?

I used to have TONS of Chap Mei stuff but when I sold a good deal of my collection off in 2007-08 the Chap Mei stuff went because I thought no one would ever want the stuff. Actually, some of it ended up going to Goodwill after a garage sale where nobody touched the stuff. I kept the Beast Raider stuff though.

I really like the Vikings line, but I believe it was only available overseas and can get pricey when you find a set especially with the shipping factored in.

Neat backgrounds on those pics, Ghouldrool! Those are the type of backgrounds I've been looking for to do pics. Out of the 19 individually pictured Chap Mei figures, I have only seen 9 of them. The viking figures are very cool as well as the guy wearing the white wolf thing on his head. And the blue werewolf type of guy is creepy . Now the Elf and Orc figures from their True Legends line at Toys R Us are definitely on my want list now.

I think Chap Mei is calling itself Excite, or it may be the other way around. I have been to a store last month that had a ton of Marine figures that were obviously made by Chap Mei but they had the Excite logo on the back. I don't know how old these are and this store still had a motorcycle-type of vehicle from Beetleborgs from back in 1997! They also have Duke on a four wheeler from the GI Joe Sigma 6 line as well. The store used to be a Gibsons store but now it's an Ace Hardware store but they retained their toy section.

I think Chap Mei is actually one of the most exciting figure companies left out there right now. I received the True Legends Elf Raiding set yesterday that I ordered from the Toys R Us website. What company out there is designing and selling stuff like the griffin-like creatures for the elves to ride but Chap Mei?

Excite is a distributor, not a manufacturer, just like Simba Toys for instance often sells Chap Mei product under their own brand name. It's common practice, and basically also what TRU is doing with its household names now. There's a lot of cost involved with packaging and distribution, so allowing TRU to sell under their own brand is cutting some expensive corners for Chap Mei. It's also funny because most of the time stuff ends up in a TRU line and only later do I come across the actual brand name of Chap Mei itself!

Yeah, this line is what I was referring to. That is interesting to know in regards to the distributor information. Chap Mei makes fairly durable toys for kids(of all ages). I just wish some of the paint jobs were a little more detailed but you probably can't complain for the price point.

Yep, I'm definately interested in their Vikings and fantasy stuff now. I hope they continue making those types of products. Now its a matter of finding them....

Maybe I have too much time to think about stuff like this, but wouldn't it be interesting if Chap Mei made a sci-fi type of line based on the main characters of the line being cool looking robots? I guess I got the idea from a tv show where some guy sorta kit-bashed action figures to make freaky-neat looking robots and had a paint technique to make them look rusty and real metallic-looking.

I just got beat in an online auction for a loose Orcus The Wizard from the Legends Of Knights line. The figure was loose and the seller put a sword in his hand. I bid double what I thought he was worth(about $6). I had a feeling whoever beat me would have topped a bid of $40 just to get that figure. Crazy.

Where do people find Chap Mei at? I remember a few years ago I would see it at Big Lots, but now I never do. I know TRU has some, but I rarely see the sets pictured online in stores. Just curious if there's some treasure trove out there that I'm missing.

Just curious if there's some treasure trove out there that I'm missing. Right now, it seems like Chap Mei's output of product has shrunk quite a bit. I see it nowhere these days but TRU. I used to see it at Kmart, Big Lots, Gordman's, and Alco stores. Trust me, if there's a treasure trove of it out there, I can't find it. If I happen to find older items for sale, the prices are outrageous. A playset that was $25 at retail becomes a $175 proposition. A lot of ebay auctions are outside the US. Either the stuff is so cool nobody wants to get rid of it or nobody thinks it's worth anything because the stuff isn't from a licensed property. As far as TRU goes, online might be your best bet.
