I recently came across a set of Commando 3 inch figures from 1985. There are two U.S. soldiers in the set, and both are made with soft rubber arms, whereas the rest of the figures are made of hard plastic just like the GI Joes. I picked up the whole set, along with a 8 inch (I think) version of Arnold from the movie as well. I never knew these lines existed.
Anyone else have any of the smaller figures MOC?

Are you referring to the Schwarzenegger Commando figure line? If so, their should be a thread on them somewhere (if anyone finds it please post the link as I can't seem to)

I had the 8inch figure when I was a kid ( and recently picked up another) as well as a giant 12" or maybe even larger Commando figure. it was made of rubbery plastic and had, I think, 6 points of articulation with cloth pants and a removable combat vest.

It was indeed even larger: source: E-bay16" to be precise. Have it alongside those giant Hulk Hogan and Lincoln Hawk (Stallone character from Over the Top). Otherwise I have a few 8" Commandos, one with backer card. Yet boss1017 I don't own, or have seen, 3 3/4" version loose or carded. Those were pretty scarce; just like you I learned from them only as an adult collector. Both the 16" and 8" came with a minicomic (like those from Master of the Universe) adapting the movie. I don,t know if it came alongside the smaller guys.

Anyone know anything about a larger scale of the Commando figures? I recently came across the "cartoon" style figures, but not at the normal 3 3/4 scale, but in large 7 inch scale.

Yes their was also another set of figures which were larger versions of 6 of the smaller figures - Matrix, Spex, Blaster, Psycho, Lead-Head and Stalker.

i never even knew there were toys released for this movie. Lot of people don't seem to know these were put out. I love 'em. Something always felt slightly off-kilter with Commando action figures, then it dawned on me what... Unlike Robocop, Rambo, Toxic Crusaders, Conan and many other violent adult action-films there was no transition to a watered down kid-friendly cartoon/comic with this property. Just, bang!, straight from an R rated kill flick to a kid's toy. Am I over-analyzing or was that an unusual marketing move for the times?

Yeah, you're right, it definately does seem like a bold/unusual marketing move. Perhaps they saw that the other r-rated movie toys had some success, so they just followed suit. It never ceases to amaze me that toys for those movies were marketed towards little kids. I mean, i personally love the idea and the toys themselves, but you have to wonder what the idea/thought process was behind the whole thing. Like who's decision it was to make them, and if there was any resistance from others advising against it. I envision a cigar chomping CEO calling the shots, just going "frack it, if it sells, it sells!"
