Anybody own one? Was this released in Europe only or in Canada as well? This is one cool playset even though it is all cardboard. Click Here to visit a site with pics where you can download hi-res scans of the pieces and print up your own!

It was released in Canada as well, but I think that there are some minor differences between the two. I would like to get one but I just cant spend that much money on cardboard.

These were %100 for sure released in Canada. I owned one as a child and am still upset to this day that it somehow dissappeared between then and now. I clearly remember setting it up and taking it apart. It was the perfect star wars accessory for a kid. I remember hours and hours of playing out scenarios with my figures and the might Death Star. One of the most impressive features was the "working" garbage compactor which was the equivilant of a pop-up book mechanism. You manually slid the cardboard wall sideways to "activate the compacting", it was great. I hope to find one again someday, but I also don't want to pay an arm and a leg for one.

The cardboard Death Star was available in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, France and Canada.
There are differences between each of them. The Cdn version has a blank bottom and features french text just above the trash shoot. There is also a Special Offer Cdn set.
The UK version has a X Wing/TIE Fighter graphic on the bottom along with a shot of the first 12 figures. The Palitoy logo is present.
The Aussie and New Zealand versions have the same graphic on the bottom but with the Toltoys logo. The only differences are the boxes - the Aussie version is like all the others, the NZ one opens like a board game.
The Meccano France version has the french text above the shoot but i'm not sure how the bottom looks. It's either blank or features the graphic but with the Meccano logo.
All of the versions came boxed with thier respective manufactuerer markings.

Are their any differences price wise for the various sets from other countries? Funny these were never released in the US though.

Yeah, there are some big price differences, especially if the sets are boxed. The Palitoy and the Cdn versions are the easiest to find so they sit at the bottom of the price point and the NZ and Meccano sets are really quite rare even loose and tend to go for about double that of the others.

Shane how do you tell the difference between a canadian playset and a meccano one. I know that the droid factory was completly different but what about the death star?

I honestly can't remember off the top of my head Paul. I believe it has graphics on the bottom of the base but with a Meccano logo but i could be mistaken.

Was in Edmonton last fall and the guy at White Knight Collectibles had one of these for sale. It was covered in dust and must have been there for awhile, I guess because it was missing a few of the small parts and he wanted something crazy for it like $400 or $500

Ya Whyte Knight can be pretty crazy for prices, they dont really seem all that interested in moving some of the peices by dropping prices, have found a few good deals there though.

I was talking to the guy when I was there about a few things I was interested in that he didn't have a price for. He said he would look into it and I told him I would come back a few days later. When i came back the guy still had no clue what he wanted for the stuff and didn't seem to interested in getting rid of it. All he mentioned was that he would trade it for something good (whatever that might be?) - even after i mentioned numerous times I was from outa town and had nothing with me Did get my Megarite their though. I bet that playset has been there since the day they set up shop.
