Hi! Is there anybody here who likes Goldorak? I have a big brother who loves this robot and its TV show. He was born in 1968, so he is part of Goldorak's generation. Goldorak is a fighting robot from the planet Euphor. When the army of Vega invaded Euphor and destroyed the planet's civilisation, Actarus, the prince, stole the robot Goldorak and flew away. He finally found planet Earth and landed on a ranch belonging to Riguel, an irritable dwarf farmer. Scientist Procyon took Actarus under his wing and hid Goldorak in an underground cave. When the army of Vega also found Earth, they began to try to invade it like they did with Euphor. Actarus uses Goldorak to fight against them.

Goldorak to the Francophones, Goldrake for the Italians, and Grandizer to the English speakers. Original Japanese title UFO Robo Grendizer.
Some of us may also recognize him as being a Shogun Warrior or from the cartoon syndicated in the US as part of the 'Force Five' series. One of GoNagai's Super Robots (Like Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger, the Getta Robos <Dragun, Poseidon, Liger/raider>) and one of my favorite robots as well. Originally envisioned as a sequel of sorts to Great Mazinger (which was a direct sequel to Mazinger Z), the series went in some new directions with both the hero, robot, and villains all being aliens and not native to earth or remnants of some ancient civilization. Considered the least popular of the mazingers in its native Japan, the show is legendary in France, Italy, and a few other places (Legendary like Voltron meets Robotech plus Starblazers kind of popular). There's new toys and statues produced regularly in France and Italy that occassionally make it to this side of the Atlantic through comic distributors.
I have quite a few Grandizer toys including vintage and modern, diecast and plastic and originating from asia, europe, and north america, and even a KnockOff.
I'll try and make some pics.

I just realized the image in the first post looks like some of the package art for some of the High Dream (fairly recent, French) releases. Sorry about the poor quality pics. Bulb burned out in my robot cabinet and I won't have time til this weekend to pull stuff out and get some better pics. Lots of Grandys.... Biggest guy in back is from the Fierce Legend of Super Robots and stands about 15-18" tall Slightly smaller one is from High Dream and is spot-on cartoon colors. Small bluish-silver one in front is from Germany and has magnets in feet and hands. Hard to see, but on the right behind the grandizer is a pencil sharpener of GrandizerXSpazer. Bandai Soul of Chogokin GX-04B UFO Grendizer Black Villain by High Dream (forget his name). Hollow vinyl similar to Kaiju(godzilla type) toys. promo poster for the original GX-04.

Considered the least popular of the mazingers in its native Japan, the show is legendary in France, Italy, and a few other places (Legendary like Voltron meets Robotech plus Starblazers kind of popular). Goldorak is also HUGE in Québec. But of course we're all French-speaking in this tread so far, aren't we? A Quebec band made a cover version of the show theme song to great success in the 1990's. Of course we had the French-dubbed version, comics and magazine for years, but now this Christmas rumors as it we'll have a legit DVD release for the first time ever! Many older fans are rejoicing, and some of my friend you bought overpriced bootlegs grumble a bit Still have a good stack of magazine from my youth, and indeed, France did produce some real neat toys and statues these later years. The France-made comics were often horribly botched but real fun - I think they were by-montlhy or something equally crazy, thus made very, very quickly, with strange back-up story to pad-in. Outstanding collection, thanks for sharing! I have a mere Shogun Warrior 3 3/4 and a neat recent vinyl 12". Super robots are awesome .

Found some old pics: Shogun Warriors Jumbo (24") and hollow vinyl minijumbo. I parted with these years ago. some vintage pieces: and my K.O. Grandizer, aka Starzinger Z: Nearly identical to the Popy/Shogun Warriors original; Starzinger has slightly altered colors from either and sports a very clear CLOVER Made in Korea copyright across his back.

I searched for Goldorak toys on Ebay lately. Man, with those high-sky prices, they are unaffordable now!
