I finally completed my collection for this figure line a month or so ago with the purchase of my Kraken. I was watching one on Ebay and was outbid buy someone else. I emailed the seller saying that if the buyer flaked out on the auction (he had like a 3 for feedback) that I was still interested. The seller contacted me awhile later and said he never heard from the buyer so he would sell it to me. We agreed on a price and I sent him a Visa check. Almost a month passed and I had not received the ittem. I checked my Visa statement and the check had cleared a long time ago. I emailed the seller numerous times over the next few weeks with no reply. I eventually even told him I would file fraud charges if i don't receive the item as I still never heard back from him. Finally I decided to see if I could find his phone number on the 411 Website. I did, called and left a message. I did another Web search and found his dad's work email address and emailed him. I finally got a reply from his dad saying when the check cleared, it went through as CA$ and not US$ how it should have, so I still owed his son $20. Now, why didn't this guy email me or tell me something? I know for sure he was going to keep my money without shipping! I eventually sent him the difference and he shipped me the Kraken. All that stress really sucked but having the Kraken is worth it. You really have to watch who your dealing with on Ebay. This is one cool figure though. Check out the Clash of the Titans section on the main Website for pics of this cool figure line at www.action-figures.ca/clash_of_the_titans.htm

Does anyone have a pic of the Lair Playset prototype? Maybe from an old dealers catalog? The best one I could find was a crappy B&W one.

This is a pretty cool line. I had a few as a kid, and for some reason never made a point of looking for them. I recently received a carded Calibos in a trade, and I think the art work is amazing. I'm not too sure if I will keeep him or use him to trade - ah decisions, decisions.

I had the entire line when I was little but I cannot find the Kraken. That really irks me!

I have a question concerning the Kraken... How come they made the Kraken look like a Triton? All Kraken pictures I have seen represented giant squids. But this figure definetly is closer to Tritons than to Squids. So, how come they gave it this form?

Simply enough, Ray Harryhausen had already made a tentacle creature in It Came from Beneath the Sea and wanted to come with something different for Clash of the Titans. Also, Kraken is a sea monster of legend, but not from the Greek myth. The Clash of Titans Kraken was simply a combinaion of different oceanic treat of legend taking the place of Poseidon's monster.

Hi - I've only recently started adding Mattel Clash of the Titans action figures to my collection but I don't remember seeing these in the UK during the early 80s'? Did any of the major stores like Toys R Us stock them? I presume the figure line was fairly popular in the US? I saw a unboxed Kraken (complete) figure go for a relatively low price on ebay a few months back and I am gutted that I did not buy it as I understand it is the rarest item from the collection. With the new film being produced this year I expect the original figures will resurface soon and probably go up in value. Flipper

The setting is actually a model from the film "Last Days of Pompeii" - it provides an excellent backdrop for my figures. Btw - before anyone mentions - the wings on Pegasus are facing down - my mistake. Flipper

I distinctly remember being at a Target store back in the day seeing Clash Of The Titans figures on the pegs as well as figures from The Empire Strikes Back and I had all four of the figures so these were definitely sold in the US. I can't recall ever seeing Pegasus or the Kraken, however.

I've got all 4 figures and the Kraken loose and 3 of 4 figures also MOC (just need Charon). This was one of my favorite movies as a kid and a line I had fun picking up as an adult. If only MIB Krakens weren't so pricy.....

This was an excellent line, I have managed to obtain the four figures Calibo, Perseus, Thallo & Charon ( Charon carded ) but would love to get hold of the Kraken & Pegasus!

I watched an oldish episode of the Toy Hunter where Jordan had a Kraken and he was like, "this should sell for around 150 to 175" I was like I'll pay that right now!
Why is the Pegasus so expensive tho? It's kind of a lame toy. Not even articulated. I was trying to find some Titans toys recently and someone was selling a Pegasus for 50 dollars, which was a good price, but I couldn't bring myself to spend it.

I thought it was clever how in the new Clash of the Titans movie with Sam Worthington they dealt with the mechanical owl from the first movie. I also liked both new Titans movies. Had a few of the action figures in my youth too.

I'm looking for a Kraken too but it's quite hard to find someone who'll ship to Australia as I believe the figure is quite large?

It is a big one, probably expensive to ship to you from the USA.

Not sure which part of Aus you're in (NSW from pics?) but there's a couple guys based in Melbourne VIC with a shop called Lobo's Collectables. (you may know 'em?) Pretty good at sourcing stuff and they had two Krakens (one boxed) when I was traveling thru Aussie a few years back and first stopped in there.

Well for those that find a kraken missing the tail. My buddy had one that way for years . He took a blue bath towel and wrapped the base with the towel and it appeared the kraken was rising from the water. We found the kraken at a garage sale so the price was right.

Awesome find, even if it did come with quite a bit of stress. In the last few years, I have had more problems on Ebay than in the previous decade before. That being said, the Krakken is one of the best figures to come out of the 80s, with most of that honor falling on the fact that Harryhausen created it.

I started looking for these figures a few years ago and have now managed to obtain the 4 main figures in great condition! Calibos MOC! Have actually purchased at least 3 of each over that time, continuously up-grading for a better figure.
my issue is finding the accessories ( Or affording more of the MOC figures! ) and here in the UK the Kraken and Pegasus are rare as Rocking Horse Poop! other than at high Buy It Now prices on ebay!
Have also picked up a great range of Ray Harryhausen 'Film Library' figures released by Futura, I have 10 in all which I believe is a complete set ( there are 2 sets available ) and they include :-
Skeleton Warrior Standing 1 - Jason & The Argonauts Skeleton Warrior Standing 2 - Jason & The Argonauts Skeleton Warrior Crouching - Jason & The Argonauts Cyclops - 7th Voyage Of Sinbad Giant Octopus - It Came From Beneath The Sea Ymir - Twenty Million Miles To Earth Talos - Jason & The Argonauts Moon Cow - First Men In The Moon Centaur - The Golden Voyage Of Sinbad Spaceman ( & Flying Saucer ) - Earth vs The Flying Saucers ( This figure has is of the Spaceman with a Flying Saucer more as an accessorie )
The figures are all around 3 1/2" and each come on their own stand which is done in an effect relevant to the film the creature comes from. ( Talos comes on the plinth/stand as in the film )
Each figure though small, is incredibly detailed down to the scales on Ymir and the fur texture on the Centaur for example.
A great set! I'm constantly looking out for figures from the other set but just don't see them!
