Woa-hoah. Thanks for the link in general, slm2024... some beauty stuff on that there site!! No Brett or Parker though, huh? ( of course, they have to leave some characters out or there'll be nothing to talk about) Thank the gods for Ash!! However, if I ever acquired that toy, my desire to splash milk all over it would be too strong...

r, if I ever acquired that toy, my desire to splash milk all over it would be too strong... yep, leaving out some figures adds to the buzz and opens up the possibility of future releases. i'm really looking forward to these, but i hope the pricing is decent on them. super7 is more or less a "designer" toy company, and most of the vinyl stuff they put out is rather expensive. i hope they don't do the same with these. i'm hoping for standard 3.75" retail pricing, no more than $10 each. i am curious what other unproduced lines from long ago may come from this ReAction branch if this Alien thing is successful. (i highly doubt it, but) crossing fingers for the unproduced voltron series 2 figures!!!

This was the best news I read from SDCC. I am a sucker for this scale and time period. I will be sure to buy a set or two. I was jealous when I first saw the prototype for Kane a while back. This presentation from Super7 was the first time I had a chance to see any of the others.

I'm hoping they are within 20-30 max. I'll likely at least get one of each.

this is what flynn had to say when the question of figure cost and availability came up: Obviously, we are super excited on the ReAction figure line as well, and we will make sure they are affordable and available. And as many of you had noted, this is just the tip of the iceberg of possibilities! That said - Alien first, the holy grail of unproduced toy lines!i requested voltron series 2 next.

Voltron series 2 would be cool. I'd kill for those Last Starfighters figures (but that then necessitates the vehicle also). I'm think how crazy this could get if this trend bleeds over into other 80's stuff. Imagine if they re-released something like the Super Powers line. Chaos would unsue. I'd still buy em though!

ive been watching the vintage star wars collectors at rebelscum since this was announced, alot of them are having a fit. personally value conscious collectors sort of make my skin crawl.
there is alot of stuff i would like and buy if this series does well. but the only unproduced figures i really go crazy over and have wanted for ever are the galoob star trek romulan, and the real west (buth and sundance) billy the kid, jesse james and geronimo figures. and i highly doubt those real west figures would ever get made.

would also go crazy over the V figures, but would prefer updated better sculpted vinrtage V figures since they have nothing else to go with. where as the gallob trek and real west figures i want the unreleased figures to go with the rest of the line.

I've actually given this some thought after reading the rebel scum arguments, and I think I agree with the dissenters on this one.
This company asked for the prototypes in an unusual way. Not necessarily rude, but I suppose it could have been handled differently. I think the frustration is that the company was denied by all owners of the prototypes, but then went ahead and did their project anyway. I'm just recapping right now, not necessarily my opinion but this is how I've come to understand what happened.
That being said, I kind of agree, that maybe they should have gone and done entirely new sculpts for the figures. I'm not quite sure yet where I stand on it, (I'm definitely still buying a set), but I don't necessarily disagree with the collectors who own prototypes on this one.

im not saying my feeling on the subject are the right ones, or the wrong ones. but i have to admit i have always had a hard time feeling sympathy for value minded collectors. i mean we all have our reasons for collecting and im not saying people who collect for values opinion is any less valid than mine. but i collect toys because i simply enjoy it, and i have no plans or expectations to ever make my money or time back much less a profit. so in a way i cant relate to prototype collectors, at least not if they collect them only because they are rare or valuable. for me i just dont like the idea of having figures that no one or almost no one else can have. there are many things to collect if you want that, but these at heart are simply toys. they are meant to be mass produced and fairly cheap, its like i collect posters not priceless one of a kind paintings by the masters. i thought about it a little and then in a way i felt like i had a simple revelation in my own way. these prototypes that were made are in and of themselves just a middle step in the creation of a mass produced toy line. so these toys being made now is simply nothing more or less than what was suppose to happen from the beggining, the whole reason the prototypes were made in the first place, so i dont really see anything that can be said about it being wrong in anyway that they are being made. for the people that do have the protos and are concerned that they will no longer have something special and rare or concerned they will lose their value i dont know what to say to that, except when i have bought expensive figures i did it because i wanted those figures regardless and i was willing to pay for them and i would have been much happier if they had not been so expensive. but in the end i only bought them because i wanted them, not because i thought they were valuable or because i wanted other collectors to be envious of what they cant have. if hundreds or thousands of people want something, then why should only 2 or 5 people have them if someone is willing to make more? thats how it works. and the odd thing is i really have absolutely no interest in these in the first place, i find them to be boring looking figures with the exception of the alien figure itself. im just excited in the hopes that it will somehow lead to the galoob romulan or kenner real west figures ive always wanted getting made. but i think its very unlikely this will actually do all that well anyway and lead to any of the stuff i want made.

^ very well put. I sure hope that any owners of original prototypes will realize that they still own something rare and special even after a production run happens.

I guess I have a few different reasons to why I'm collecting, I love SW because I grew up with the vintage figures, after I completed my loose figures I started a bit on Clone Wars. I like knock offs a lot, and also rare figures(dunno why).
About the Alien prototypes, I do see why these probably wouldn't make good child toys, I saw the movie when I was very young and had nightmares for weeks lol.
If I myself owned a prototype bought roughly 30 years ago, I've been very careful with it. I payed a large sum for it and I'm very proud of it. Then the company comes and asks for it back because they are going to use it to create molds for new ones. I know this will probably do some form of damage to the prototypes which I wouldn't be to fund of. But if it where me I would do it, because the value of the prototypes would not go down, it would go up from how I see it. If they finally get a line behind them, that's what I think, can't say for sure. Who knows what will happen.

I agree with you guys, I really do. I'm conflicted on it, but I'm also curious to watch it all play out. I'm personally very interested to see what other lines will take this direction. I own one prototype, that I recently bought for too much money , but I bought it because I've ALWAYS wanted it. More so because I really liked the figures as a kid. Now that I do have one, I wouldn't mind it if a company wanted to recreate this wave of figures, (it would certainly make it cheaper to get the rest). I have to agree with you guys though, at the end of the day these are just toys. Meant for fun.

I think it's cool they are finally getting released, and I'm definitely gonna buy them! Here's hoping to The Dark Crystal figures being the next thing.
I can't seem to go to that ReActionFigures.com site. Have they released anything like this before? Or have any other companies released figures that only ever got to prototype stage before?

This news is pretty easy to find today but I would like to post it here as well. More info from Super7 about the four exclusive deals at SDCC. I was hoping they would eventually take orders for individual figures but so far , it looks like they will only offer the complete set of 5 for $100 shipped. I will be ready to order on-line when the convention is over. blog.super7store.com/2013/06/19/sdcc-alien-reaction-figure-exclusives-revealed/

its good to see these are finally coming out but ive always only been interested in the actual alien figure. i dont mind at all that they are vintage scupting or 5 point articulation, but the figures just arent very cool or interesting looking. i do sort of like that unpainted 2 pack though. if they would make that unreleased galoob wesley and romulan in your avatar i would lay down $100 in a heartbeat.

I believe these will be sold separately after the con through other retailers for $20 each. This SDCC pre-order is just an awesomely unique way to kick off the line and save a few bucks since shipping is included. I'm getting the Early Bird Kit and the Prototypes. I think what they're doing with these is brilliant.

I don't collect prototypes, but a friend of mine owns one of the Alien prototypes, and he's told me of his displeasure with this Reaction release. Now I see Gentle Giant is "sort of" reissuing the 18" Kenner Alien. There's will be 24 inches, so it's not an exact reissue, which is nice for people who own the originals (I own two, my childhood one and a boxed one). I do think both the Gentle Giant and Reaction retro Alien toys are going to dampen the value of vintage Kenner pieces. We can whine about it, but it doesn't do any good. Companies will keep regurgitating the past if they think they can make a buck off it. I don't fault people for wanting a reissue (I might buy one of those Gentle Giant Aliens), but I don't think people should fault collectors for wanting to preserve the value of their vintage pieces. Nobody likes to see their property devalued, whether it be their home, car, collectibles, intellectual property, or whatever.
