I hope this subject hasn't already been brought up. How important to you are the figures' accessories when collecting, vintage or modern? I am curious to hear other collectors' opinion on this, because buying figures without accessories, especially vintage, can save you some cash but then you're not collecting the figure in its entireity.

It certainly depends on the figure - like if it's accessories are pivotal to the character (ie Stratos' wings/jetpack) or if they are not so much (ie Star Wars guns)
But to me the figure is the most important part.

Good for me a fair number of the lines I collect (muscle) don't have accessories to worry about.
Beyond that it is a line by line basis and in some lines a figure by figure basis.

A figures accessories are usually fairly important to me, however I will still pick up certain weaponless figures depending on the price and how comman they are. I have matched up weapons to many figures over the years for a complete one, so sooner or later i find the weapon for the figure.

Beyond that it is a line by line basis and in some lines a figure by figure basis. I'm with Mrjayberry on this one, it's pretty much a line by line thing for me, and sometimes figure by figure. Sometimes the accessories are a fundamental part of the figure and in other cases they just seem like an afterthought.

Accessories, for me, depend on if the figure i'm buying has them at the time of purchase. If it doesn't have their weapon, then tough fiddle-de sticks. If I like the figure, I'll get it whether or not it has it's accessories. I figure I will eventually find the figs accessories, but I'm not gonna break the bank doing so.

I would have to say that the accessories are the most important thing, most figures you can pciuk up cheap but the accessories are always expensive

Like others have stated it depends on the figure. I do always try and find the accessories. Some weapons and accessories are as much or more than an incomplete figure.

Two or three accessories are probably sufficient for most characters.

As with everything in collecting, it's down to personal taste.
For me it's a figure by figure basis. I collect for the memories and art of the sculpted figure, so typically accessories aren't that important to me...unless I have a solid memory of that figure with his/her accessory. Like, Han Solo needs his blaster, Tri-Klops his sword AND glow-in-the-dark ring, Real Ghostbusters with unbroken proton packs and streams....but Greedo? Cobra Commander? Nah
The only problem is...most of my memories include accessories so without them they aren't complete to me.

For me personally, a figure without weapons is like a painting without a frame. I get a little anxious to look at a displayed figure incomplete, but that's just me. I'll put random weapons on some figs just so they'll have something to defend themselves with. On the other side of the coin, I do enjoy a good madball or Godzilla figure where an accessory isn't important.

It definitely depends. Accessories are important, but only if they are/were good ones. I have all the accessories for my 4.5" playmates star trek figures just because I opened them all up new and saved them. The majority of them are useless though. If I were starting to collect them loose today, I wouldn't care about most of the accessories.
The motu knock-offs I've collected though have pretty cool accessories. But they are generally expensive and/or difficult to acquire complete. Mostly I collected them loose and found accessories for them later in lots. Mannix figures are just tough to find. I'll take them with or without accessories even though finding just their accessories is extremely unlikely.

My requirements are that the figure be in at least roughly the same condition they would be if I'd owned them since childhood - I don't mind a scuff or two, a little paint wear on buttock or toes and I don't mind if they've lost their weapons - it happens; even I - who took care of all my toys - lost some and I respect that most kids would have been far worse than me as such I'm OK with them not being there. I do quite like things to be complete though - y'know armor, hats, capes, helmets, but again keeping in with my 'same condition as they would be if they were mine' requirement every so often one without something is OK - my Space Cadet Raphael no longer has his dome so I didn't mind that Bravestarr didn't come with his hat, I'll get one at some point (for both).

I prefer to have complete figures (in a perfect world) however I would rather at least own the figure over nothing. I usually buy bare bones loose figures and add to them over time. I buy a lot of lots and aquire accessories that way then slowly complete what I can when I can. To sum it up though I'd rather have a figure with no accessories sitting on my shelf than no figure at all

I wish I could ever just answer a question simply LOL. I have never been super worried about the weapons or things held, but if some sort of piece of clothing like a hat or cape or something is missing it annoys the hell out of me. but I have saved a lot through the years on buying figures without accessories. sometimes accessories even kind of bother me, on some lines like g.i.joe where a figure comes with more stuff than it can hold. that drives me crazy, what the hell am I suppose to do with the 3rd gun or whatever? sometimes a figures will have a holster you put a weapon in and 2 more weapons that you have in each hand and there are still extra accessories. then im frustrated trying to figure out what to do with them. I have bags full of extra weapons now and I could empty those bags out and have no idea who this crap goes to because I cant remember what every pistol looks like and who had it. but yet I cant get rid of them either because I feel like that will make something incomplete, even though if I had bought it incomplete I wouldn't have cared. ALSO, when I display my figures on the shelves half of the time I don't give them their weapons anyway. weapons that are rare, or really small, or figures that don't hold them well, or anything that makes me worry it will fall and be vacuumed away and they get displayed without it anyway. and again im trying to figure out where to keep this weapon so I remember what it is instead of becoming another part of one of the bags full of anonymous weapons, with the extra g.i.joe weapons that have no extra hand or holster to hold.

There are some figures like the TMNT where I want Leonardo to at least have his swords to look complete, but others like Tung-Lashor who need nothing and still look great. It all depends on the figure for me.
