Weren't there wooden Popeye action figures released in the 1930's? I know a member from this forum shown a set of those in a thread somewhere...

The Popeye and Superman figures were made by Ideal. I think there was also a Mickey mouse. Also all through the fourties there was carnival figures of superman, etc. (not articulated so i guess they dont count) Some claim that the lone ranger was the first successful action figure. I think his date from the fourties and were metal figures but i dont think he had an action figure until the early sixties (after the joes)

the first 3 3/4" figures im aware of are legends of the west which i believe started in 74. I think the Excel Little Legends are even 1973, right? They're all as tall as Chewbacca, but still look like 3 3/4 figures.
