Sorry for the crude drawing, but I thought it'd help to have a visual aid. Anyhow, me and my bro' had these in the 80s. Weren't part of a cartoon or anything, just cool robotic bug vehicles. They might have wound up and moved or might have been battery operated. Kinda like Zoids but you didn't have to build 'em. They were maybe 8 inches long or so. They had little rubber yellow bug guys to sit in the cockpits. Each vehicle rider came with three (maybe more) red solid plastic robots. I had a green scorpion and my younger brother had a black beetle. Name of the toyline? Anyone else have any?

Here's a figure closeup! Keep in mind, these were less than two inches tall...about the size of Air Raiders figures or less. No articulation...solid. I remember jamming one of the bug guys in the bathtub faucet! Naturally, they didn't look exactly like this...these are just vague drawings from memory to help jog yours!

Megabug Gladiators? I've seen another toy line that is similar to this also but can't recall the name.

Naw, definitely not Megabug Gladiators...I'm sorta familiar with those...not them though. Funny thing is...years ago I think I did find out what mine were but forgot...again!

From the picture it looks just like the Spider Slayer from Spider Man

As far as I know...no Spider Slayer toys were made in the 80s...I know what one you're referring to. These were total 80s no-name, doomed to future obscurity toys.

No, those are just Rocks Bugs and Things figures...totally different...yet still cool! I'll admit that I've never seen the Grasshopper loose before...usually the only time I see it is on the side of the packaging. I almost wanna bid! Too bad the scorpion seems to be missing his legs......

MYSTERY SOLVED!!!
...and no need for Robert Stack, either!
They are called X Terminators BATTLE BUGS, made in 1985 by LJN.

Tough to find something when you don't know the name, date, or manufacturer...and due to the fact it's probably an obscure toy line, I figured I'd just wait it out...and did! Victory! Patience is a virtue. The box is beat up but the toys were still sealed under the plastic bubble, so it's still pretty minty. Eh, I opened the thing...why not?! Sadly, after popping in the single battery it required, it only lit up and did not move. I'm not an expert on that kinda stuff...would age be a factor? I saw no corrosion and like I said, it was still sealed. Eh, no biggie, I suppose. The eyes kinda flicker as if they were gonna die. Better batteries maybe? You just pop off the entire top buggie part to insert the battery...be careful! The bottom part has a little on and off switch and there is a big "ROUGH RIDERS" mark on the underside (not shown), so I guess the bottom part had been a reuse from a more vehicular line of toys? Probably. Here's the figures in a scale shot...too bad they aren't the size of the average "army man" figure...would make for some epic battles...they have the LJN info and such on the undersides of their bases...well, the bug guy doesn't. Now, the back of the package...oh yes...how can we forget the back...the story line the other available toys...oh, we simply cannot forget showing that off! Ahhhh...there's that scorpion I had! My younger bro had this one I have. Looks like the bug guys had standing figures too and the red robots had sitters! Never knew! Such wonders! Also, never knew there were more "deluxe" sets either. The only name I hate is Storker...what the heck?! At least the others kinda make sense in a generic, buggie sort of way, but Storker? Now, I just have the (hopefully not) daunting task of getting the rest! Spread the Gospel of X Terminators Battle Bugs, people. Oh, and uh...yoo hoo! Moderators? Feel free to move this ID thread out into the "real" world now that the mystery is a-solved. Jeez, sounded kinda rude maybe...eh, I suppose nobody will cry themselves to sleep. The world just needs to know! SEE?! AND YOU ALL PROBABLY THOUGHT I WAS CRAZY!!! They do exist! They really do exist!!! Yip-yip yahooey!!!

Glad you solved this mystery, these things are awesome and right up my alley. Your right about Rough Riders being a vehicle line, I have one in my room that also doesn't work, although corrosion may be factor with mine. One of my projects is trying to figure out how to make it run.
