One of those toy lines you stumble across the existence of by accident. Apparently made in the 90s at some point. I thought they might be based of the old Valiant comic book, but that was H.A.R.D. Corps, plus the characters don't look the same. Sorry, no pics but I know they were made by a company called Drastic Plastic. There were at least eight figures made...four monster looking guys and four human in battle armor guys. I'm pretty sure they had simple articulation. Any help in terms of info or origins?

Used to have 2 of these sets but sold one last year. They were sold MOC packaged in a box as a set. They took pre-orders in Tomarts for them back in the day for $99 a set (which later went to $199 once they were produced). They say not to many sets were made, but I can't think of the number off the top of my head.
The paint jobs looked to be done by hand and over time the figure parts started to fall apart (at least a few of mine did). Also the bubbles on the 2 sets I own(ed) started to come off.

Hmmm...so...what WERE these? Just some made up toy line with no media tie-in? Due to inability to find any true info on the toys, I scoped eBay...found one trading card and two figures floating around. Bid on and won two of the monster/alien guys. Got 'em for ten bucks each (carded). Probably a bad impulse purchase, but I guess the curiosity got to me! I was scared they were gonna be total P.O.S.s...I guess we shall see!

Just got these in the mail today (quick ship!) and, hoo boy, you weren't kiddin'!!! Bubbles were yellowing and starting to peel...they totally look hand-painted and even the seems are coming open! Man, there goes what is hopefully my final lesson in toy collector impulse buying...of course, I'll open 'em later to truly "enjoy" them (if possible) and give anyone who cares a little review. Just need to wrangle me a camera......

Here's the two figures I now own...pffft...and probably the only two I'll ever own! Aside from the general quality, these are actually kinda cool. They totally look like some monsters I woulda drawn...maybe that's why I was drawn to these? Aside from the blister bubbles peeling off, the cardboard backers are actually pretty thick and durable. No peg holes! The bubbles have the Drastic Plastic logo stamped on the front. Hmph...they put more love into their darn logo than into the toy quality! I seriously think they used spirit gum or cream glue to hold the bubbles on the card. I made the mistake of picking one up and the bubble just popped right off about three quarters of the way as the figure and his broken arm slid out separately.......niiiiice......

Here's the cardback..... It shows all the characters. Each figure gets the classic vital statistics and a little write-up. Not too shabby. I guess they were going for an alien hunter type story (if there was ever meant to be one). Dude, these things reek of 1994! Look at the designs of the "heroes"...total early 90s comic fodder! Gotta love it! The aliens are actually cool (in my opinion), but the humans are forgettable.

Okay...out of the package... Sculpt-wise...not bad...just a little rough looking. Not very refined...just look like someone hand carved these and hand painted 'em. The seems are coming apart. I swear they used the same glue to hold the figures together as they did the blister bubbles! Joints stick...I think they got some glue in 'em. They can move (barely), but make a sick, kinda wet sound when manipulated. That totally sounded dirty. Uh...ummm...yeah, so the parts are kinda loose. Some of the edges are kinda sharp. No wonder these guys are meant for ages ten and up! Even some of the edges are chipped near the seams. Dude, remember those craft toys they used to have where you can mix stuff up and cast your own figurines to paint? I seriously think they used one of those sets to produce these figures. As you can see...breaks happen...even before you open 'em...well, they kinda open themselves! I tried testing the threshold of breakage (lightly) on the solid parts. They feel weak, but actually held up. Surprising. Oh, well. Eh, they are neat...and they got heart, but they're still crappy. I kinda wonder what the creators are doing these days. I still would like to find out more about these, oddly enough. I realize my criticisms are harsh, but hey, they ARE just toys. If they weren't made of hardened soap, I'd actually like them!

I actually own the entire original 9 figure release. The plastic on the cards was designed to come off without damaging the card face. A second series was planned but are very hard to find. They were sold as limited run prototypes (about 25 of each). I own 3 of them and have seen photo prrof on eBay of two others. Along with the initial 9 figure set in a collector's box there was also a guidebook/writer's bible for a proposed syndicated show and various pre-release updates and freebies (a poster, trading cards and psuedo progress newsletter). If folks are interested I could post up some pics of the figures as well as a link to another collector's flikr page of box and figure shots.
